Keeping A Schedule is Critical if You Work From Home
Some of the first things which come to mind when people envision what their lives would look like if they could work from home, is not having to set an alarm clock. While this is indeed attractive, there is a massive downside. That downside is that if this is your vision, you are likely to waste a lot of time, and be unproductive.
The fact of the matter is that if you plan to work from home, you must also be prepared to schedule every minute of every day. People who work from home generally have broader job responsibilities than people who work at a typical nine to five job. As a result, time management becomes more essential, since more time is required to complete more tasks.
In the initial stages of your home business you may not recognize how much actual work is involved. However, if you are fortunate enough to have your business become a success, you will quickly realize that there are not enough hours in the day to complete your tasks, if you do not account for your time with a schedule.
Below I have outlined the top five reasons why a schedule is absolutely essential if you want to work from home:
1. Scheduling enables you to prioritize your tasks.
2. If you do not schedule, and prioritize, you will be easily side-tracked.
3. Unscheduled work time will overlap into your free time.
4. Conversely, unscheduled free time will often overlap into your work time, causing your to fall behind.
5. Focusing your time and effort on highest priority tasks means getting more done.
I understand that scheduling your time takes away some of the attractiveness of working from home. However, if you want to be successful, it has to be done. The truth is that keeping a schedule will actually result in more freedom than restriction. Remember, you set your schedule based on what you need to accomplish. If you have the time available, you can schedule a two and a half hour lunch, or even an entire day off. Just think of all of those times that you are sitting at work with nothing to do since you are ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, because you work for someone else, you are stuck sitting at your desk on a sunny Friday afternoon because your boss expects face time, and you do not want to waste your vacation time.
Zero Cost. Zero Obligation.
