The responsibility of planning and working hard fall squarely on your shoulders if you work from home. Simply put, the future of your home business is a direct consequence of the decisions and actions that you take from its inception. The sooner you realize this, the better, since time is of the essence. When you work from home, you are both the CEO and the secretary. Thus, you must put your best foot forward.

The goal of most, if not all, home businesses to enjoy the highest measure of success possible. The most important question to ask yourself is, what can I do today, this week, this month, this year, to get the most out of my home business? If you really harbor the belief that there is more to be accomplished, you need to immediately cease making excuses, and begin taking action.

If you do not want to remain haunted by feelings of under achievement, you must begin to believe in yourself, and the fact that work from home scenarios were made for you. In addition, you must never quit. When you feel like quitting because things look bleak, remind yourself that things only appear to be bleak because you are on the verge of a major breakthrough.

Below I have composed the five most important questions which anyone in a work from home environment must take the time to ask themselves. The answers to these five questions will help to motivate you to achieve optimum success.

1. The What?

What is it that you want from your current work arrangement? While you should not be afraid to aim for the stars here, you also need to be realistic. Your "what" must be attainable, otherwise you will become discouraged.

Once you have clearly identified what you want out of your work from home arrangement, it becomes the focal point of everything you plan to do. Knowing what you want to do gives you clarity and a much needed sense of purpose. It also prevents you from engaging in side tracking, time wasting ventures which have no connection to your purpose.

2. The Why?

Understanding the importance of why you want to work from home in the first place is the motivation which fuels you to accomplish your set goals.

Why do you want to achieve these goals you have set for yourself? Why do you want to be your own boss? Why do you want to make more money than you were making before as an employee? The answers to these questions must be compelling enough to move you into action.

3. The Who?

No, not the group who who is set to perform at halftime at Super Bowl XLIV for some reason.

Rather, you must figure out who you need to become in order to achieve your goals. Do you need to become more confident, dedicated and focused, or do you need to become a risk taker? Do you need to become more assertive, or do you need to become more patient? Identify the qualities that you need to adopt in order for you to achieve your goals. Keep in mind that you cannot become what you need to be by remaining what you are.

4. The How?

How are you going to manage working from home? How are you planning to optimize your situation to make it successful? Have you composed a business plan? Certain tools must be in place to help you fit all of the pieces of the project together which you plan to accomplish.

Having a plan is very important because it is the road map to your goal. It will help you know what information you require to make each phase of your life a success. For example, if you want to make more money, what steps do you need to take? If plan A fails what is plan B?

5. The When?

Every goal you set must have a due date. Thus the planning stage must turn into the action stage, and the action stage must produce measurable results. When are you going to be done with at least one specific goal you have set out to accomplish? When are you going to wrap up the project?

For those of us who work from home, I find that it is best that we break our goals down into daily or weekly goals, and them measure our success incrementally. Not only does this keep us motivate, but it also keeps us on track. It is thus small victories along the way which pave the road the success.
