Work From Home - The Art of Press Releases
Many people who work from home understand the value of a well written press release. A press release, also called a news release, is essentially a message to the media (newspapers, magazines, news divisions at TV and radio stations, websites, etc.). The purpose of a press release is to highlight an event, accomplishment, or a new product or service. The press release may be written on behalf of an individual, a group, a work from home business, or a large company.
Once the press release is written and sent out, the hope is that one or more of the targeted medias will either publish it verbatim or publish or broadcast it in part. A further hope is that it will serve as a seed that ultimately develops into a feature story written or developed by a journalist.
A well-written press release may also become an SEO article marketing tool, helping a business or nonprofit increase traffic to its website. Search engines like Yahoo, Google or Bing will "discover" the press release on the Web and use it as a criterion for page ranking. The more press releases issued by a particular entity, the higher the potential page rankings on search engines for that entity's website. In this sense, a press release can function as a duel-purpose marketing vehicle:
1. Spreading the word about new products, services, personnel, accomplishments or events (recent or upcoming) on behalf of an individual, company or group.
2. Boosting the search-presence of that that individual, company or group by publishing relevant press releases at free posting sites.
When writing a press release, keep the following three tips in mind:
1. Stay focused on the who, what, when, where, why and how. Who or what is this press release about? When did it happen/will it happen? Where did it happen/will it happen? And finally, why and how? Why is it happening and how will it impact the future? Try not to veer off into abstractions or generalizations. Press releases should be short, simple and easy to read.
Work From Home - Why You Should Use Google Webmaster Tools
If you work from home and utilize a website, chances are that you have engaged in, or are planning to engage in Search Engine Optimization (SEO). However, if you are dipping your toes into the SEO waters for the first time, then setting up your website on Google Webmaster Tools (GWT) should be part of your set-up plan. The following are my top 5 reasons for using GWT:
1. Indexing - GWT provides a sitemap submission service. This allows you to submit an XML sitemap of all the pages on your site. By providing this to Google you are ensuring that all your web pages are found and indexed. Pages that Google cannot index will not appear in their search results and therefore you will not rank for the key phrases that page is targeting. It is important that all your pages are indexed and for new websites it is important that they are indexed quickly. This feature will help the process.
2. Site Speed - The speed of your site has now become a ranking factor. Fast loading sites will rank higher than slow loading sites. GWT provides information on how it views the site speed of your website. The site performance option will tell you how long it takes to download a web page and how you can improve the download speed. It also compares your website to other websites so you get an idea if it is fast or slow.
3. Troubleshooting - It is important to ensure that your website is coded properly and that it prevents no problems to search engine crawlers. GWT provides troubleshooting features that will alert you to any problems it encounters with your website. It will also make HTML suggestions. If Google tells you to do something then you are probably best of heeding that advice.
4. Geographic Target - If your website is solely targeting Ireland and you have a .com TLD then your website is at a disadvantage on local search engines. Most people search through local search engines like Google.ie so it is important that you level the playing field. Ideally your website should have a .ie TLD but for many reasons this option is not always available to businesses. To fix this you can set a geographic target in GWT. Google will then associate your .com website with being from Ireland.

Learn more about the competition: Once you know that there are others online who are making money from similar or related business ideas, find out what they are doing in terms of their SEO strategies; how they are making money; for instance, are they selling products or services, do they offer subscription to their sites, product info or advertising . If there isn't a lot of competition; this means that either you are ahead of the curve when anticipating the profit potential of the idea or there is not enough demand in the market for the product or services.
Work From Home - Watching Out for MLM
Every single day, people who aspire to work from home engage in what is known as multi-level marketing or MLM. Perhaps you have had a friend, family member, or complete stranger attempt to recruit you into such a business. However, before you make the plunge, the one thing that you need to make sure of before you even think of join them in an MLM business is the training.
The main outward focus in the multi-level marketing world is for the company representatives to go out there and to recruit more people to the business. Basically find more people that will join up. Now this can be a good thing but it can also be a bad thing.
See if the person that is looking to recruit you into their organization is someone that does not have a lot of real experience in this industry, there is a good chance that you will suffer.
Generally what happens is someone will present the business to you, answer all your questions, and then when you're ready, will sign you up into the work from home business. Then they ask you to write out everyone that you know and then want to do the same thing with all of them. This is what they generally call your training.
But here's the thing, if you actually wanted to build a business, a real business, and the person that said they'll show you the way only ever teaches you this little presentation, there's a very big chance that you will fail. Think of it like this, just imagine that someone said that they'd teach you to make a movie but then they only ever show you how to turn on the camera and hit the record button. You might make a little film but you probably will not be making any sort of an epic movie any time soon.
